| American handmade, handpainted naive, folk pine box. Cherry red ground with blue and white painted sailing ship flying an American stars and stripes flag on lid; anchor and snake on face of box. Brass hinges; marks on the sides where handles were once affixed. 12.50" wide, 6.25" deep, 5.75" tall (31.75 x 15.87 x 14.60 cm). The lid shows notes indicating that the box was used in the 1960s as a Christmas Bazaar cash box, although we believe the box, itself, dates to the 1940s.
