Rare Ceramic Lamp, the very first Chintz pattern, "Marguerite," by Royal Winton, Grimwades, created in 1928. It was an immediate success, followed by many other, now famous, chintz patterns. This lamp dates to that time, and has, of course since been discontinued. Our camera tends to make tall sender items look squatty, but we have included a reclining photo which shows the acual appearance of the lamp, tall and graceful. Signed on the base, in underglaze green, "Royal Winton, Grimwades, Made in England," and an impressed "No. 4" or "No. 9." The body of the lamp measures 12", while the overall height from base to finial, is 29". Largest body diameter is about 5", with the brass base about 5.50" in diameter. Metal parts are all burnished brass, and likely original. It has been newly rewired, and the socket is fairly recent. The shade is available, although it is old, and beginning to tear at the lining; and shipping for the shade is additional. Excellent, undamaged condition to the body, with very slight oxidation to the metal. c. 1928. $40 US Shipping for the lamp; $20 US Shipping for the shade. |
