A rare, small art glass Ewer, with swirling cobalt blue and white canes, either from Venice, or facon de venise from perhaps France, and by Clichy Glass Makers. A double handle is shaped from leaves, tiny stylized fleur d' lis make up the borders around the mouth and neck of the ewer, and it rests on three ornate scrolling feet. Both the underside of the spout and the band at the base are completely covered in embossed floral decorations. The clipped pontil of the ewer is thick and extends down into the metal base where several black inclusions (usually ash) may be seen. We suggest the ornate ewer metal mounts are likely gold-plated copper (although we cannot guarantee this). There is scattered minor oxidation to this metal, including some verdigris. The rim and upper neck of the glass ewer is missing a piece, which we have photographed from above. Overall height is a petite 4.50", spout-to-handle is 2.50" across, diameter of the bulb of the ewer is about 1.75" diameter, and foot tip-to-foot-tip is about 2.50". We suggest age is circa 1840. $15 US Shipping. [purchase instantly via paypal at the order/inquire button] |
