ORIGINAL ETCHING by RAOUL DUFY (1877-1953), "Bather," image sight is about 12-3/4" x 9", matted and framed to 20" x 16-1/2" x 3/4". Pocket on verso contains the original folio mat with hand-written note on back. Verbatim message is below ... briefly, the etching was purchased, in Paris, from an art dealer, in 1956, as a gift for the former owner. This mat measures about 22" x 18", and according to the note, was folded for the return. A close look does reveal the slight fold in the etching, although unless one knows it is there, it is not noticed.
The note reads: "Paris, Oct. 6, '56; Hi George: Always decisions -- Eva & I looked thru many folders in a small shop across from Notre Dame on Quai Voltaire. Wasn't too sure as to what struck your fancy (but this is suppose to be an original). Had to fold the mat to get it back to U.S.A. without complete damage. Am sure you can re-do a matting.
Had bad luck in Rome. Car was broken into luggage - gifts - all our exposed film camera - etc., stolen. Eva and I decided to give up and go home. Drove to Paris as directly as possible. Selling car, then to Rotterdam to try for an early sailing on the Holland-American.
Thanks again for the camera. Hope to see you & Wayne one of these days. Eva & Jerry Keller
P.S. November 8, Much time has elapsed since we were in Paris. Finally made it to Florida, landed a job at St. Petersburg -- so I guess this will be a starter. Will write soon, Eva & Jerry"
The Etching appears to be in very good condition, although we have not examined it outside of the frame. FREE U.S. SHIPPING [purchase instantly via paypal at the order/inquire button]
