SIZE: 11-1/2" tall, 4-1/4" x 4" base.
DESCRIPTION: Very rare. This, and a companion piece which we will be listing, are worthy of the finest museum displaying Cordey/Cybis Porcelain. Created in the 1940s, hand-numbered on the base, "5073", and a very faint, unreadable remains of a circular mark on the base.**
This beautiful, elegant caucasian lady imitates the grandeur and gracefulness of Oriental costuming both in headdress and gown, as well as facial makeup; she, herself, has greying hair, pulled to the back in a braid. Much gold accents the soft, pastel coloring of the costume, and she stands upon an attached rococo plinth also accented in gold.
The molding of the entire piece is loose and expertly "carefree" in that upon first glance, many areas may seem to have breaks or losses, when in fact, they are perfectly and strategically intact, and exactly as the maker intended. One might say that she is a "three-dimentional impressionist painting!"
Our camera was unable to fully and accurately capture the quite subtle coloring and form of this exquisite piece, meaning that the buyer should be pleasantly surprised at the improvement of the "in person" appearance over our photos. A magical piece for the finest of collections.
**A BIT OF HISTORY: Boleslaw and Marja Cybis, Polish immigrants, founded the Cordey China Company, New Jersey, in 1940, and went on to develop the now well-known Cybis Studios.
CONDITION: Perfection with one exception -- we believe the "cord" which connects the ribbons at the jaw level, is missing the tiniest piece (pictured). This would be an inexpensive and minor repair by a professional should that be desired.
