Ko Kutani Bowl Green Aubergine Blue Yellow

Excellent undamaged condition.

This lovely piece is from the final Estate of well-known and respected Antiques Appraiser and Collector of Asian artifacts, Juanita Brown, Oklahoma City, formerly of Dallas.

The piece was represented to us as "Ko Kutani," perhaps latter half of the 19th Century; we are not experts in this area, and defer to and request that interested buyers make their own age conclusions, as we cannot guarantee age.

The ground is grey-ish, with overall crazing (likely an intentional feature). Raised Enamel Design includes blossoms of white and pink with touches of yellow; aubergine tree trunk and additional blossoms; green field, grass and leaves; blue representing water; yellow butterflies; and a single gilt and red blossom at center right. The gilt and red blossom may be a signature feature, but if so, we have not been able to identify the artist.

Underside of the bowl is enameled in emerald green with overall black outline design, "clouds" perhaps? The double-square Kutani mark is on the center base, along with a very small, darkened piece of what we believe was the original import label. The underglaze color, orange, appears around the wide foot. It measures about 7-3/4" x 4-3/8" x 1-1/4" tall; foot is about 3/16" wide. $18 US Shipping.
