Limoges Porcelain Golden Pheasant Charger by Coudert

11-1/4" Porcelain CHARGER exquisitely hand-painted by French artist, "Coudert" recognized in Gaston's "Limoges Porcelain," where several comparable examples of this artist's work may be found; Coudert was known for painting game birds, animals, and flowers. Although the plate shape is one used by the artist, we are unable to identify the manufacturer -- an underglaze impression of "C" or a Crescent may be seen in the same photo as the overglaze red mark by "C et J, Limoges, France."

A brightly plumed Golden Pheasant and Hen are centered among waving grass, blossoms and trees, while a pale landscape appears in the background, as other birds in silhouette fly toward the top of the plate. A generous gilt border encircles the pair.

CONDITION: Excellent, with very minor scattered gilt losses.

Limoges, France; circa late 1800s-1914.
