This short boot style pair of lotus shoes are made of silk satin weave fabric embroidered with floral motif and decorated with applied elements. Clearly, made by a wealthy woman. They were sourced from Yunnan where the multi-colored heel was typical of upper classes in that region. Obviously they were frequently worn and are not in good condition, being both dirty and frayed. But I could not resist them. Both the rarity and condition were considered in the price...

22 inches long and a century of hard use but the tip is clean and sharp. I suspect a skilled carpenter could still use this old Chinese drill to build a cabinet or post and beam house. Personally, I am so thankful for electrical tools.

This Chinese pinafore style garment would have been worn by a small girl child of the Dong ethnic minority in Shui Kou. Fabric is handwoven from cotton fiber, hand stitched with intricate decorative applique work and hand woven snowflake pattern ribbon accents the border. No rips, no tears, and no holes...but this piece is old and has been worn and is a bit "dirty".... and still has its original ties. It is 14 inches wide and 21 inches long...great ethnographic textile for framing.
