This belt is part of the traditional costume worn by the Hmoung ethic minority group in the mountains of northern Thailand. Every square inch of the belt is intricately embroidered with a series of embroidery techniques including applique, sumack and cross stitches. The belt is decorated the various sized wooden beads probably from China and very old coins from Burma. The belt makes a stunning display and can easily be worn. The size can easily be adjusted by moving the large silver balls. The elaborate front panel of the belt is 12 inches from the top to the lowest pointed tip. The total length of the belt is almost 35 inches excluding the button loops.

There are a few small areas of loss to the embroidery threads which are visible in enlargement #6, a close up of a section of back of the belt. Probably because of wear, the inside of the belt has been carefully "relined" with a more recent fabric. But the original lining remains on the "point" sections. The added lining fabric does not show and does make the belt less fragile and more wearable. Of course, I did have to wear it a few times to be sure. This belt visually stunning, gets a lot of attention and is very comfortable to wear.
