Neophytes may wonder why these vases are costly given the surfeit of replicas and resin based objects. The reason is that authentic cinnabar can take months to literally years to complete because each coat of laquer takes time to apply and dry. Often times 200-250 coats are required to complete a cinnabar item. Given the substantial size of the vase that is all the more impressive.

Another characteristic you should notice about the vase is its quadrilateral form which gives the vase a good deal of rarity compared to the more common spherical vases.

The vase stands 8 3/4" tall. Its general condition is quite good but there are noticeable defects. You will find all but one associated with the base but please ask for additional photos as not all of them could be loaded with the listing. There is loss of material on one base edge and two base corners. Please study the pictures as they show the amount of damage. Also, the inside of the top has a loss of laquer. Finally the underside shows breakage though still firmly in place. While this may sound like a lot of damage, this is not so great given its age. We have seen more troubled vases with less appeal priced at 450 USD in fine antique shops.
