Fall colors have been sumptuously painted on this Rudostadt pitcher which was thinly mold potted. The ecru ground plays warmly with the gilded attached handle which has scrolling and folliate flourishes. The piece is decorated front and back with gold, crimson, and yellow leaves reminiscent of a glorious fall. The highlight of course is the obverse which receives the most detailed attention. The hand painted flowers should be framed but alas it will have to do on your mantle, cabinet or book shelf.
Although a utilitarian piece, we do not imagine that it was so used. There is a crack where the handle was attached and believed to be a production flaw rather than later breakage. The handle gilding shows loss commensurate with age and care. The underside bears the Rudolstadt RW back stamp viewable with photo requests. 9 1/2" h. |
