MERIDEN AESTHETIC SILVER PLATE COFFEE POT, Islamic
Aesthetic Movement Coffee Pot by Meriden Silverplate Co., Connecticut. The Coffee Pot is 12" tall. The width is 8 1/2" including the handle and spout. The design has really well integrated elements, including a Middle Eastern form, Islamic or possibly Gothic ornamentation, and a floral rolled die cast that is purely Aesthetic. There is a knop on the lid, repeated on the top and bottom of the handle; a tight design with a flower just below the curve of the handle; an egg and dart design on the sides of the upper part of the handle. The bowl of the coffee pot has a cast rolled die of stylized flowers and leaves, with a barely visible trellis behind the design and a small repeat just under the top of the neck. Some Meriden pieces with this design mark the pattern, French Villa, on the bottom. Exceptional condition with no silverplate loss. ................ This Aesthetic silverplate selection reflects many features of the Japanese Influences on the Aesthetic Movement. The sources of inspiration inspired the American craftsmen to experiment with hand tooled finishes, bands of rolled dies that speeded up the ornamentation, designs that reflected Japanese designs, including textile designs and the love of nature enjoyed by both Japanese and American cultures, which resulted in sculptural forms of nature, including the treatment of metal as if it was fabric. Although the objects were machine made, much of the decoration was done by hand, either finishing the castings of the silverplate or incising the designs. These are some of the influences among the richest creativity in production during the years 1875 to 1900. ..........11188.zad.tis. $575.00
