$175.00 for the Watcombe plaque only.
Victorian Painting of Christmas Roses on Terra Cotta Plaque, Watcombe, c. 1880s. Beveled Period Frame.
The painting of the white Christmas roses is on a gray background, and set in a custom made round frame with a high beveled curve. The painting has no signature but the quality of the brush work is clearly professional. WATCOMBE in Torquay is a company for which Christopher Dresser designed many items, mainly jugs in an angular style. The back of the plaque has impressed marks reading WATCOMBE and TORQUAY.
There are no marks for the artist. Stylistically, the painting and asymmetrical placement of the flowers suggests 1880s-1890s. The plaque remains very clean. The price is only for the plaque. The custom made frame cracked due to the interior dryness during this winter. The price is only for the Watcombe plaque. The frame will be at no cost, other than shipping cost. The frame can be glued together, within a vise, but I am not an expert. The outer diameter is 16.5" and the inner circle is 13.5" in diameter. The width of the frame is 3" in. The wooden frame shows the grain of the beautiful wood.
