WEDGWOOD POLYCHROME PLATE WITH FLORENTINE BORDER – Month of February - Children Skating. The illustration is that of two children enjoying an afternoon skating on a pond. The colors are delectable, and tend to make us forget how cold it was outside. Wedgwood produced many variations of the series of months, which were originally designed as tiles by the artist, Helen J. A. Miles. This plate (and the plate for July, also listed) was transfer printed onto the plate and hand painted. Numerous versions of the plates have appeared: the central tile, mirroring the original tiles, has borders which have been used by Wedgwood with a number of designs. The border design is from the FLORENTINE service. The Florentine service has been long-lasting in its popularity and is still manufactured today. The plate is 10.5" in diameter. The plate is very good, with the colors of the printing remaining bright and clear. There are no cracks, chips or other structural damage. Printed marks on the back include WEDGWOOD, ETRURIA and ENGLAND. There is also an impressed mark, WEDGWOOD.
