WEDGWOOD, POLYCHROME PLATE WITH FLORENTINE BORDER, from the Series of Months: JULY, Boy and Girl at the seaside. The illustration is that of two children enjoying an afternoon at the beach, playing in the sand. The colors are bright and clear. Wedgwood produced many variations of the series of months, which were originally designed as tiles by the artist, Helen J. A. Miles. This plate (and the plate for February, also listed) was transfer printed onto the plate and hand painted. Numerous versions of the plates have appeared: the central tile, mirroring the original tiles, has borders which have been used by Wedgwood on a number of designs. In this case, the border is the Florentine border. The Florentine service has been long-lasting in its popularity and is still manufactured today. The plate is 10.5” in diameter. The condition of the plate is very good, with the colors of the printing remaining bright and clear. There are no cracks, chips or other structural damage. Printed marks on the back include WEDGWOOD, ETRURIA and ENGLAND. There is also an impressed mark, WEDGWOOD.
