| AESTHETIC JAPANESQUE TRANSFERWARE DINNER PLATE, 10.5” W. HAND PAINTED BLUE, PINKS, GREENS WITH PALE LUSTRE The KIOTO pattern by Bates, Gildea & Walker, was first registered in 1880. This is a wonderful example of English Victorian Aesthetic transferware, with strong Oriental influences. The transfer is black on a white ground and has silver luster and motifs hand painted in blue, green and pinks. There is slight color fading, but the overall look is very prerry. The border is decorated with flying and standing cranes, stylized and natural cherry blossoms, cattails and geometric patterns, the last of which is highlighted in a teal blue color. The inner rim is almost a basketweave pattern, in a rich, fuchsia color. The center medallion shows a bird sitting on a branch, above a geometric wall. The rim of the inset is bordered by a repeat of the 2 colors, and that again is bordered by a ring of cherry blossoms. Condition is very good. The marks on the back include KIOTO, BG&W (for Bates Gildea & Walker), and Late Meyers. There is also an English diamond registry mark. | ||
