| AESTHETIC JAPANESQUE BLACK TRANSFER DINNER PLATE, 10.5” W. HAND PAINTED Rust Red, Light Orange luster. The KIOTO pattern by Bates, Gildea & Walker, was first registered in 1880. This is a wonderful example of English Victorian Aesthetic transferware, with strong Oriental influences. The border is decorated with flying and standing cranes, stylized and natural cherry blossoms, cattails and geometric patterns, highlighted with rust red chrysanthemums. The inner rim has a basketweave pattern with a touch of orange luster. . The center medallion shows a bird sitting on a branch, above a geometric wall. The rim of the inset is bordered by a repeat of the 2 colors, and that again is bordered by a ring of cherry blossoms. Condition is very good. The marks on the back include KIOTO, BG&W (for Bates Gildea & Walker), Late Meyers. As well as a printed ENGLAND. There is also an English diamond registry mark. | ||
