| AESTHETIC SET OF COPELAND PRIMROSE, 1881, WITH A BLACK TRANSFER AND HAND PAINTED IN SHADES OF BLUE, PINK, MAGENTA AND PALE OCHRE LUSTER. This set consists of 8 dinner plates (9 7/8” in diameter), a very large platter (17” x 13.5”), a round covered tureen ( 12 inches diameter, 6 inches in height) and a covered oval vegetable tureen (13.5” in length x 6” in height.) Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, crazing, nor staining. It is quite rare to find a set with serving pieces in such great condition. Please contact me if you would like more details. The PRIMROSE pattern was first introduced by W. T. Copeland in 1881. The platter and plates feature a central star made up of small primrose blossoms as well as a border with tiny primroses. This Aesthetic Movement design has a black printed transfer of a stylized central exotic flower radiating in arches like a pinwheel star from the center and decorated with Acanthus leaves all around the edge. Indian/Oriental influenced design. Each petal is a hand painted panel made up of tiny flowers and leaves, all hand painted in shades of blue, pink, magenta and pale ochre luster. The design is reminiscent of a Gothic stained glass rose window. The markings include the registration diamond, W. T. COPELAND & SONS, as well as PRIMROSE, the pattern name. | ||
