Fragmentary glazed faience amulet of the Egyptian god, Thoth, depicted as a man with the head of an ibis. Wearing a striated tripartite wig, striated kilt, arms down alongside body and with a large, exaggerated beak. Late Period - Ptolemaic Period, 600-30 B.C. 2 inches high. Pierced for suspension. From an old Manhattan, NY private collection. Thoth was thought to be the scribe of the gods and patron of all scribes.
