| The human-headed falcon wearing a tri-partite wig with long lappets and the feet set apart on an integral rectangular base. Ptolemaic Period, 300-32 B.C. 5 1/2 inches high. Some wear with traces of gesso and polychrome. From the New York Estate of Stuart Bart. The Ba was portrayed as a human-headed bird, whose duty was to reunite the soul with the body. The Ba-bird was often shown hovering over the deceased's mummy or leaving or entering the tomb at will. | ||
