| Wood head of the jackal-headed god, Anubis. Late Ptolemaic - Roman Period, 1st Century B.C.-1st Century A.D. 2 1/4 inches high. Extensive remains of gesso and pigment along with traces of gilding. Possibly a furniture attachment. From the Harold Leeds, Wheaton Galatine collection, purchased in Egypt in the late 1940s. Anubis was associated with mummification and the afterlife in ancient Egyptian religion. | ||
