Graceful ancient Greek Hydria, depicting a woman, seated left, on a pile of rocks and a youth standing before her. She wears a radiate crown in her hair, wearing earrings, a necklace and a bracelet. Her right hand holds a patera, with food - possibly eggs, resting her left hand on the rocks. The nude youth with a chlamys draped around his left arm. He wears a a floral diadem is his hair and holds a floral swag in his right. The vase decorated with 3 rosettes above, a black wave pattern below and a laurel pattern decorating the lower neck. 3rd/4th Century B.C. 11 3/4 inches high. Repaired. Purchased on the London art market in the mid 1990s.
