AN ANCIENT ROMAN MARBLE RELIEF
Large Roman marble relief depicting two nude erotes, with small pot bellies and exposed genitalia, and wearing long, flowing robes. 2nd/3rd Century A.D. 13.5 inches high X 15.25 inches wide. Mounted. From a French Private Collection, acquired in Paris during 1960s-1970s. Erotes are a group of winged gods in Classical mythology. They are associated with love and sexual desire, and form part of Aphrodite's retinue. The individual erotes are sometimes linked to particular aspects of love, and are often associated with same-sex desire.
