| 5 1/2” overall with coffered lid with cusped channeled corners. Raised central moulding enclosing an engraved central flower flanked by scrolling foliage. Full length hinge. Stepped flared base with matching moulding at the top. Internally spring release with small button. The body decorated with a series of arched designs as found on oak coffers of the period. Interior with two sets of stalls for dividers. Shows great age with deep patina, small defects including chip to short segment of the interior edge (not visible when closed) small dents, and portion of the base along the front worn through to the joint. All consistent with its age and in all, a wonderful antique character. Could easily have been used in Colonial America. | ||
