This is a lady that I do not see very often. She is mold # 162 by Kestner, and she is large and lovely! She has superb bisque and she is in overall excellent condition! Her original Kestner lady body carries a label for G.A. Schwarz, Toy and Fancy Emporium of Philadelphia. She is fully dressed in antique/vintage clothing, and she retains her original wig and plaster pate. Here are the details:
Historical Note: The Schwarz brothers came to America from Germany in the 1860's and 70's. They opened toy stores in various East coast cities: Henry in Baltimore, G.A. in Philadelphia, Richard in Boston, and F.A.O. in New York.
Head: Her bisque head is perfect with no cracks, chips, or hairlines. She has brown sleep eyes that work perfectly, with real hair upper lashes and painted lower lashes. Her mouth is open with four upper teeth. Her original brown mohair wig is in excellent condition and she retains her original plaster pate. She is marked Made in Germany / 162. Factory imperfections: a small uneven area on the inner rim. Signs of wear: None!
Body: Her original Kestner body is marked in red on the hip, Germany 5. She carries a label on her back that says, Made for G.A. Schwarz / Philadelphia / Made in Germany. This body is in excellent condition with no repairs and no repaint.
Clothes: She is fully dressed in antique/vintage clothing. She wears a pretty antique dress with a layered skirt. Underneath, she wears an antique half slip and a really nice combination under that is probably original to her. She also wears vintage oilcloth shoes and knee-high rayon stockings. Finally, she has a nice antique/vintage taffeta hat decorated with black velvet, cream taffeta and brown leaves. She is adorned with an antique silver brooch.
