Paul Jacoulet woodblock, titled "La Pipe a Eau. Chinoise" (The Water-pipe. Chinese), published December 31, 1952. It is pencil signed and bears the Peach seal on the front and an elaborate PJ seal on the reverse. This design is illustrated at plate 126 of Miles, Richard, The Prints of Paul Jacoulet, 1982. The image measures approximately 15 ½ by 11 ¾ inches, plus full margins. What appears to be a nick in the bottom margin on the right was actually done intentionally at the time of printing to assist in the alignment of the wood blocks, and is indicative of untrimmed margins.
This print is in excellent condition, and the colors are very fresh and intense. This print came from a collection that had never been matted or framed! |
