Original Japanese woodblock print by Hiroshi
Yoshida (1876-1950), titled Jungfrau, from the Europe series, 1925. It
has both a brush signature in the image, and a pencil signature in the
bottom margin. There is also a jizuri seal in the upper left margin,
denoting that Yoshida had approved of the quality of the print. This design is illustrated at plate 15 of Ogura,
Tadao et. al., The Complete Woodblock Prints of Yoshida Hiroshi, Abe Publishing Co., Ltd., (Tokyo, 1987). This is a particularly important example of this design, as it bears the large brown jizuri seal - one of the earliest used - and it is an early experimental printing, with soft keyblock lines and variant colors. This print is in excellent condition, with extremely vivid colors, although it is lightly toned. The image measures approximately 10 by15 ¾ inches, plus full margins. |
