A black-lacquered kobako of rectangular form containing four smaller boxes and tray with handle. Decorated Somada-style with inlaid aogai and gold foil, a patrician lady seated elegantly within a boat views a fisherman close by. River plants float on the waters and a swaying willow bows overhead. The interiors of the boxes are lacquered with dense nashiji, the outside borders with random flower heads. A magnificent studio porcelain vase of flask form. The two rondels depict a powerful and dynamic sea dragon in rich cobalt emerging from tumultuous waves. (This five-toed dragon taken from its Chinese progenitor, symbolizes the emperor.) The other panel depicts three koi energetically rising from the sea. MAKUZU KOZAN signature on the base. A rare Imari porcelain plate of ogee-form with a sculpted, scalloped surface. On its pristine white vitreous ground, leafy scrollwork in under glaze blue and salmon-hued enamels is superimposed by kiku-rondels in alternating shades of iron red and cobalt, gilt details throughout. This attractive Imari plate is in very good condition with minimal surface wear to the gilt due to age and use. Height: 12.5”, width: 11” Meiji Period, Japan

Here is a lovely tripodic blue and white porcelain koro with pierced lid. A Greek T-fret pattern rims the cover, the body a continuous band of bamboo, sakura, plum and pine inhabited by chirping sparrows and small rabbit. The koro is signed with the Hokusan signature on the base and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Height: 4” 19th Century, Japan

An oval-shaped shakudo tsuba modeled as vertical stalks of bamboo. Each stalk, situated one against the other, forms the tsuba ground with five clusters of bamboo leaves, gilt and textured, strategically placed on its surface. Signature incised on front side by Busho Masatoshi. This fine shakudo and gilt tsuba is in excellent condition. Height: 3”, width: 2.75” Edo Period, Japan

Here is a silver model of a seated Daikoku with his treasure sack. Known as the god of prosperity and one of the seven Lucky Household Gods, he holds his mallet while his beloved rat attribute perches next to his famous sack. (The rat in Japanese culture is associated with prosperity and usually depicted with barrels of rice, indicators of wealth.) This okimono is in excellent condition with no dents or restoration, with wood stand. Width: 5.5" Meiji Period, Japan

This graceful porcelain vase displays fully blossomed iris on a graduated, green-enameled ground, the colors softly fading along the foot. The iris and their tall leaves and petals are carefully defined in white enamels and pale green washes of color. A magnificent studio porcelain vase of trumpet form. On its surface, pine trees rise and spread out from its white enameled base to the flared rim, gently gradating in color. Saturated cobalt enamels defining the trees in the foreground create visual impact as the trees in the background softly fade away. Makuzu Kozan signature cartouche on the base.
