A studio porcelain vase of elongated, form depicting three auspicious koi in washes of mauve and grey-colored enamels. The iconic fish of East Asia are finely delineated naturalistically, their sinuous bodies slightly overlapping. Surrounding waters are painted in a fine, semi-translucent glaze. Imperial court artist, Makuzu Kozan’s under- glaze blue signature on base. This iconic vase is in excellent condition. Height: 11.5” Meiji Period, Japan

A tall and elegant Hirado porcelain vase of cylindrical form rendered with a serene landscape in under- glaze blue enamel on a characteristic soft white ground. Gently rolling hills are the backdrop to a lakeside scene of sailboats and flock of birds-in-flight over placid waters, a cluster of thatched roof-top huts nearby. An enchanting bronze and parcel gilt okimono of a dancing boy in festival garb joyfully waving a banner over his head. His heavy gold necklaces, kabuto and robes, richly adorned with gilt family crests in high relief, convey the sculptor’s fascination with holiday spirit and pageantry. This delightful sculpture is attributed to the renowned metallurgist Miyao Eisuke. Excellent condition with neither damage nor repairs. Height: 9.5” Meiji Period, Japan

The flared skirt is rendered with images of a royal procession and its attendants bearing a palanquin and banners on a gold-speckled ground. Gilt signature on spout of Nenda zo. A tapered, studio porcelain vase with softly rounded shoulders and small flared neck executed on a matte, iron-red ground. Upon its surface, in creamy-white enamel, groves of wild kiku grow, their petals overlapping and leaves overturned to convey an exquisite kind of passionate floral imagery. This is an impressive Satsuma censer on self stand with pierced cover, handles and a lovely sculptural finial of kiku and leaves surmounted on its lid. The censer is done in the early Satsuma style using gosu blue, deep iron-red glazes and gilt detailing. On the body, flowering sakura trees emerge from a patch of lush chrysanthemums. This is an extraordinary gold maki-e natsume (tea container) inlaid with aogai, or mother-of-pearl. On its body and lid, a continuous scene, intricately executed, shows chrysanthemums blossoming over a checkerboard fence. The interior is done in dense nashiji "pear-skin" technique.
