A striking bronze and multi-metal vase of baluster form, its copper-patinated neck simulating wood grain. Framed by a band of carved scrollwork with silver and gold inlaid flowers, the central visual is inlaid with precious metals to create a charming scene. Two silver cranes, worked in high relief inlaid with shakudo, gold and color-patinated alloys, graze among tall bamboo, iris and butterflies. A delightful Satsuma vase of moon shape on pedestal base with monkeys frolicking mid blossoming sakura. On the reverse, an elder trudges up a mountain toward a refuge, villagers conversing nearby. A delicate brocade of pink and white moriage sakura buds on a black ground with gilt details decorates the neck and base, the two scenes executed in beautiful colored enamels. Positioned with her head turned and long tail encircling her body, this striking cat embodies the sleek, fearless characteristics of classic feline beauty. Incised Shuzan signature on nether side. A studio porcelain vase remarkably modern in appearance. Its rounded body is defined by representations of two realistic crabs set against a finely graduated blue ground. Each crab is executed with extensive detailing and shading, the creatures in low relief. The fine hairs on these crustaceans are rendered naturalistically, a feat achievable with apparent ease by the great ceramist, Makuzu Kozan. An exquisite five-case inro of roiro-ground depicting the "Fisherman's Dream". The clam and water reeds are executed in takamaki-e, the exquisite under-water palace and stylized waves on the reverse in silver and gold togadashi. On the interiors, the rich nashiji ground glows. This is a lovely soft, sea-green cloisonne vase on silver mounts worked in wired and wireless techniques with snow-capped Fuji san towering in the background. On the waters below, a lone boat sails and small huts under pine nestle in the rolling hills long side. The base of the vase is inlaid with the GONDA mark and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Height: 10"

A Satsuma okimono of the Buddhist deity, Kannon Bosatsu, astride a luxuriantly caparisoned white elephant, its trunk raised to indicate the occurrence of an auspicious event. Enameled in gosu blue, emerald green and iron-red with rich gilding, the goddess sits regally, quietly meditating. Gilt Satsuma mon, “Satsuma yaki” and gilt Kintozan signature seal on the side. This impressive Satsuma sculpture is in excellent condition. Height: 13.4”, length: 12.3” 19th Century, Japan
