Here is a tall Imari porcelain urn of elegant form with three curving legs, scrolling handle and pewter hardware. Lappets along the neck and base enclose songbirds nestled among wild grasses. On its conical body, two teahouses are surrounded by lush peonies and an abundance of kiku buds in traditional period palette with gilt detailing. This urn is in excellent condition for its age, with no chips, cracks or restoration. Height: 16" Edo Period. Japan

A fully carved boxwood okimono of a seated priest with a jui (scepter) carved of white and brown agate in his right hand. The priest's robe is carved carefully as it eddies about his feet, the sleeves cascading from his broad shoulders in sweeping folds on each side. His features are well detailed and his gaze pensive. A whimsical boxwood netsuke carved with infinite detail of a priest, who even after death continues to beat upon a mokugyo. Himotoshi lined both in ivory and stained green ivory. Signed Komin (attributed to Komin from Tokyo). Early 19th Century, Japan.

A round studio porcelain plate rendered in soft tones of graduated blue enamels with star-shaped flowers on leafy branches. The delicate blues contrast against the deep, brilliant yellow of the background. Blue enamel cartouche of the master, Makuzu Kozan, on the reverse. A fine black lacquer, gold, silver and shibayama 4-case inro complete with accompanying ivory figural ojime and shibayama manju netsuke. The visual shows a robust figure of Hotei, garments stirring and his sack slung over his shoulder as he waits for his two traveling companions, lost in conversation on the reverse. This is a full-bodied studio porcelain bowl with wide rim and everted lip. On its slightly lobed body, eight cartouches depict Sennin in soft underglaze blue enamel surrounded by iron red and blue auspicious clouds. Each Sennin displays a specific attribute, such as the uchiwa, flower basket, double gourd and hand scroll. (Sennin were Chinese in origin, but their legend and iconography became revered in Japan.) This is a major pottery vase of tapered form completely decorated with delicate karakusa (Chinese leafy scrollwork) in a dark blue slip. Plum flowers in gilt and red glaze add a surprising and sumptuous finishing touch to the vase. Signed by the renowned Kyoto-based artist ITO TOZAN on the base with seal of Teishitsu Gigeiin (Imperial Court Artist). The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
