A large and marvelous shakudo and gilt menuki formed as a standing Kuan Yu with fierce expression and Chinese halberd in hand. The Chinese general is dressed in intricate, patterned robes of kaga-inlaid gilt, round helmet on his head. A wonderful Satsuma vase, double-gourd in form, embellished with brilliant phoenix covering its upper portion and jewel-like textile patterning draped over the shoulder. Encircling the body, a richly gilt royal palinquin is borne by myriads of courtiers in full dress, the latter indicating their status. Black and gilt Kyozan signature on base. Height, 4.75"; diameter, 3.5". Meiji Period, Japan.

A complete set of twelve iron card holders. Each one is intricately inlaid with gold and silver pine barrens and torii on a smooth iron ground. The largest card holder shows a sail boat gliding on a placid lake with silver-capped Mt. Fuji in the background, all holders perfect accessories to the finest dinner table. This complete set of card holders is in the style of KOMAI, and is in excellent condition with no missing pieces or restoration. Meiji Period, Japan

A lovely and unusual gold-lacquered tobacco box on four feet with silver lining and two drawers. This lovely container is designed completely in gold lacquer with swaying grasses, kiku and reeds on a rich brown ground. Includes wire for cigarettes and wooden tomobako, which is signed Fuku zo. A lustrous high-shouldered cloisonné vase with an ethereal grouping of three egrets posing in a marsh, surrounded by marvelous trees and bushes. The artist creates a subtle mood through use of wireless (musen) and wired imagery, allowing for unexpected glimpses of emerald hues against the pearly ground. This is an important gold-lacquered kogo of square form. On its cover, a circular inset of peony executed in gold, silver and red hiramaki-e on a kinji ground is set on a gold lacquered ground with mat-weave design. Stylized waves frame the surface of the lid and cartouches of sakura in gold and silver further decorate the cover. An elegant iron sukashi tsuba of round form with silhouette of water reeds, their tall, willowy stalks bent slightly over delineated waves. Above near the rim, three abstracted birds fly-in-formation. The iron is not rusty and overall condition is very good. Minor wear commensurate with age and use, remnants of gilt throughout. This tsuba is a fine example of Kinai School of sword fittings. Diameter: 3” Edo Period (18th Century), Japan

This is a charming Imari porcelain plate modeled as a fish, its concave head, fins and tail in saturated layers of underglaze blue. Main image depicts a beloved motif in Japanese art, nature in all its glory.
