Here is a delightful pair of Imari porcelain plates naturalistically shaped as leaves with foliate rim and delicate stems. An overgrowth of succulent grapes on vines and grape leaves is rendered in relief in overglaze iron red and gilt on a white, ground. Three rondels with paulownia leaves in bold iron red and cobalt float amid this lively display. The pieces are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Dimensions: 7.5" 19th century, Japan

This is a delightful porcelain incense burner of compressed form on three small feet, its silver reticulated cover woven in a hexagonal pattern. Along the body, finely executed renderings of amusing frogs are engaged in the human activities of arm and sumo wrestling, subjects often presented in all media of Japanese art. A Nagoya School wooden netsuke carved and patinated to form a lotus pod with moveable seeds. Netsuke artists were great observers of nature in all its forms. This netsuke was carved with great care, as seen in the water droplets along the stem and veining with stippled details on the exterior. Excellent condition with no damage or restoration. Meiji Period, Japan

Inlaid and overlaid with birds of all kinds celebrating the arrival of spring, the flared, golden necks of the vases are worked with a T-fret design framing foliate cartouches with matching floral themes. This is a white-glazed porcelain okimono of a seated rabbit with a softly modeled body. The eyes are realistically depicted in pink glaze, as are the interior of the ears. Signed with a plaque by the artist Banko Fueki. The okimono is in very good condition for its age, with two small chips in the glaze toward the rear. Length: 8” Meiji Period, Japan

An elegant iron sukashi tsuba formed as a majestic Manchurian crane with open wings. The dark iron metal is accented with gilt nunome zogan detailing. The crane in East Asian culture is associated with longevity and also with Fukurokuju, one of the Seven Lucky Gods. A large sentoku presentation tsuba realistically sculpted as a farmer delighted with the red-combed cockerel clasped in his arms. The piece, enameled with colors and carved and etched, conveys the excitement of the moment; eyes, double-inlaid with silver and shakudo, detailing in copper. An Iga-yaki (Iga ware) mizusashi with black-lacquered cover. This tea ceremony fresh water jar is hand-made in the characteristic style of the beloved Iga ware—a rustic unglazed body of irregular form with small “katamimi” handles sculpted along the neck. An enamel glaze dramatically dripping from the top and down the sides is rendered in a soft beige hue with crackled finish. This one-of-a-kind piece is in excellent condition. This is an extraordinary bronze vase reminiscent of the shapes of ancient Chinese bronzes. It boasts an unusual foliate pierced trumpet neck, architectural handles and lobed globular body.
