A round studio porcelain plate rendered in soft tones of graduated blue enamels with star-shaped flowers on leafy branches. The delicate blues contrast against the deep, brilliant yellow of the background. Blue enamel cartouche of the master, Makuzu Kozan, on the reverse. This glorious plate is in very good condition with slight surface wear, commensurate with age. Diameter: 8” Meiji Period, Japan

This elegant Satsuma ewer with exquisite brocading and handle and spout formed as bamboo is enameled with a continuous scene of the popular Japanese art theme, "Three Friends of Winter". A large bronze baluster vase with archaic-shaped legs and handles. Executed in gold, silver, shibuichi and copper, its central visual is defined by kaga-inlaid lappets at neck and feet. Upon the body, a regal egret, kaga-inlaid in silver rests upon a snow laden branch sculpt in shakudo and surrounded by sprays of silvery, snowy reeds. A rare, unusually-modelled sentoku suiteki, similar to a box, a marvelously wrought mokko-formed tsuba its lid. Formed as a suiteki (water dropper for calligraphy), delicate sprays of leafy vines in low relief cover its nanako ground. This rare metalwork piece is in very good condition with only minor wear to the base, commensurate with age and use. Length: 3.5” Meiji Period, Japan
