This is an ingeniously crafted ikebana basket formed as a fishing boat, its body intricately woven with fine bamboo strands interspersed with sections of rootwood. Bamboo reeds worked for the bow and stern, and twisted bamboo applied to either side of the mat-plaited deck provide additional support and aesthetic charm. The piece is lacquered a rich mahogany color, adding to its beauty. This delightful basket is in very good condition.

An elegant karamono-style bamboo flower basket of classic form woven in a tight matte plaiting, its double reed handle at the top wrapped with elaborately stitched work throughout. The bamboo strands have been carefully stained a rich color and lacquered - still visible today. Here is an unusual vase of modified meiping form. The vase is crafted in a soft color -gradation from dark grey to white. The nocturnal backdrop highlights the whiteness and translucent quality of plum blossoms as they shiver in the air. The vase is signed on the base by Kozan II and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Height: 11.5" Meiji Period, Japan

Here is an extraordinary ikebana basket by bamboo master Suemura Shobun of Osaka (1917-2000). Using his signature style of finely treated bamboo and refined simplicity, this hanging basket of double-gourd form is worked in a mat plaiting technique, the looped handle secured with shrimp stitching and woven to the body. This charming globular-shaped porcelain vase is worked predominantly in underglaze blue and various pastel-hued enamels with gilt detailing on its white ground. In the Chinese style, figures are depicted as they engage in various pursuits - ikebana arrangement, tea ceremony and incense burning. This lovely ikebana basket with unusual narrow waist and flared neck is woven with an overall design. On four pod feet and topped with an arched double reed handle with symmetrical insect stitching, its lightly -colored bamboo slats worked in a swirling design connote moving water, the effect resulting from tight plaiting left to right. A pair of fine glass and silver decanters of conical form with pierced silver stylized bamboo stalks and leaves embracing its surface. The silver stoppers capture the art deco-inspired conical shape of the vessels. The bases and stoppers are marked "Sterling 950." ( Japanese silver is 950 in silver content, higher than the British sterling.) These decanters are in excellent condition with no dents or damage. Height (both): 12" Late Taisho/Showa Period, Japan

A gold-lacquered, covered box of rectangular form rendered in gold and silver lacquers. On the cover’s exterior, with superb definition, a delicate image of tall irises is positioned asymmetrically on the smooth kinji ground. As characteristic of Japanese art, the visual continues on the side of the box. The interiors are executed in rich nashiji lacquer.
