A fine cloisonné vase of baluster form with two lotus-formed handles executed in moriage. A grayish-blue enameled ground serves as the backdrop for a brilliant ho-o bird-in-flight, its body wired with a myriad of jewel-like, colored enamels. Stylized flowers and foliage rise from the foot. This silver-mounted vase has the great Hayashi Tanigoro silver-wired signature mark on the base. Here is a soft sea-green celadon vase of globular shape. On its lustrous, watery surface, pastel-hued fish in low relief swim among carved seaweed. The round Suwa Sozan II signature is found on the base. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. (For an almost identical vase, see "The Nasser D. On a bright yellow enameled ground, wisps of bamboo leaves and stalks defined with fine wirework and graduated green enamels. Some ripening leaves accented with copper-hued enamel. This is a charming boxwood netsuke of two seated rabbits facing opposite directions, one with its paw on a persimmon branch.Their bodies are delicately modeled, the fine, incised work simulating the creatures' furry coats. Their eyes are inlaid with mother-of-pearl and the bottom of the piece is brilliantly carved to indicate their tails and the soles of their feet in the most naturalistic manner. This is an ingeniously crafted ikebana basket formed as a fishing boat, its body intricately woven with fine bamboo strands interspersed with sections of rootwood. Bamboo reeds worked for the bow and stern, and twisted bamboo applied to either side of the mat-plaited deck provide additional support and aesthetic charm. The piece is lacquered a rich mahogany color, adding to its beauty. This delightful basket is in very good condition.
