Here, the artist Paul Jacoulet inverted the female and male roles from Manet’s celebrated Dejeuner sur l’Herbe. A six-sided ikebana basket of unusual form woven entirely with open-work hexagonal plaiting. The lacquered bamboo strands are incredibly thin and delicate. Insect stitching keeps the rim and base securely in place. Executed by the renowned bamboo master Chikuunsai II, his incised signature found on the base. This basket is excellent condition. This is a charming boxwood netsuke of two seated rabbits facing opposite directions, one with its paw on a persimmon branch.Their bodies are delicately modeled, the fine, incised work simulating the creatures' furry coats. Their eyes are inlaid with mother-of-pearl and the bottom of the piece is brilliantly carved to indicate their tails and the soles of their feet in the most naturalistic manner. This is an ovoid shaped ikebana basket with pedestal base and bands of twined and looped bamboo slats across the body. The tight and open weave on the body creates an interesting contrast. Its braided rim supports the double-twisted handle. This basket is in very good condition for its age with only one minor split to the bamboo near the base. Signature on base. An atypical ikebana bamboo basket of square, tray-like form, its shape designed with delicate open-work hexagonal plaiting. The artist created an interesting contrast of interwoven golden and red-brown bamboo strips to highlight the basket’s pattern and form. Enclosed in this finely polished wood case is a set of twelve fruit knives with blunt blades and multi-metal handles. The shaped handles are decorated with butterflies and frogs in silver, gilt and copper on a woven sentoku ground . A large Chinese cloisonné covered box formed as a cart drawn by a powerful ox. In opulent, baroque-style, its opaque enamels in iron red, pink, black and white are contained by heavily gilt wires with stylized decorations embedded in its turquoise-enameled ground. Rich in symbolism, archaic dragons, phoenix, lotus and jeweled necklaces cover the entire piece.
