Here is an unusual vase of modified meiping form. The vase is crafted in a soft color -gradation from dark grey to white. The nocturnal backdrop highlights the whiteness and translucent quality of plum blossoms as they shiver in the air. The vase is signed on the base by Kozan II and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Height: 11.5" Meiji Period, Japan

This lovely ikebana basket with unusual narrow waist and flared neck is woven with an overall design. On four pod feet and topped with an arched double reed handle with symmetrical insect stitching, its lightly -colored bamboo slats worked in a swirling design connote moving water, the effect resulting from tight plaiting left to right. This fine basket by an unknown artist is in very good condition, two barely discernible breaks (see pictures), due to age. Height: 18" ...click for details

This is a lovely silver and multi-metal kogo formed as a recumbent crane, its neck snuggled in its plumage. The crane's shibuichi body is delicately modeled in low relief with shakudo tail and textured gilt crest, the silver interiors finely polished. Incised characters and two cartouches on its base read: "Gift for wedding of Takeko". This small kogo has slight discoloration to the shibuichi, (see detail shot #2) however, this does not affect the overall charm of the ko ...click for details

An oblong ikebana basket with wide bamboo strips woven in an open-hexagonal pattern, its handle formed of twisted rattan. This purse-shaped ikebana basket has the appearance of leather, its fine bamboo slats dyed a rich, plum color in keeping with the style of bamboo master Waichisai. Celebrating the revered position of the fish in Japan's culture, a marvelous copper and shakudo sea bream (tai) is segmented and carved meticulously in high relief on its front surface. A stained wood netsuke carved as a recumbent goat, its regal head turned skyward. This classic pose is expertly rendered with deeply striated layers of the creature’s fur and undercut horns. In Japanese art, the sheep and the goat are often interchangeable. Most notably, the goat/sheep is associated with legendary characters such as the Taoist Sennin.
