This is a beautiful and charming ikebana basket entitled "Chidori," or plover, made of natural, old bamboo in an open-work hexagonal weave. The handle is made of triple reed with butterfly and interlocking V-knots. Includes tomobako, its lid reading "Hanamori" (flower vase) on the exterior and inside, Hanamori, Showa 12 Summer. A six-sided ikebana basket of unusual form woven entirely with open-work hexagonal plaiting. The lacquered bamboo strands are incredibly thin and delicate. Insect stitching keeps the rim and base securely in place. Executed by the renowned bamboo master Chikuunsai II, his incised signature found on the base. This basket is excellent condition. A Japanese silver okimono of Daikoku, one of the Seven Gods of Good Luck, seated on two bales of rice with his magic mallet in hand and treasure sack over his back. This is a charming boxwood netsuke of two seated rabbits facing opposite directions, one with its paw on a persimmon branch.Their bodies are delicately modeled, the fine, incised work simulating the creatures' furry coats. Their eyes are inlaid with mother-of-pearl and the bottom of the piece is brilliantly carved to indicate their tails and the soles of their feet in the most naturalistic manner.
