An impressive, large bamboo ikebana basket of oval shape with irregular, open-work plaiting, its ribbon-like strands treated in a rare “tortoise shell” lacquer technique. Contributing to the overall bold style of this basket, is its low, asymmetrical bamboo rope handle braiding about the basket’s rim and body. A superb hanging bamboo ikebana basket of lobed, oval form carefully woven in herringbone design with vertical inserts, its rim intricately braided. A braided silk cord is attached to the body with metal clasps formed as plum blossoms. This ikebana basket is in very good condition with only few signs of wear commensurate with age. A large ikebana basket in the style of ancient bronze vessels, the handles elaborately designed. Narrow strips of bamboo, lozenge - plaited, create open work on the body, segmenting it by two bands of twined bamboo. The sculptural form and workmanship of this basket immediately identify the maker, Rokansai, who refined karamono-style and raised basketry to an artform. Tomobako. Height, 13.5". Iizuka Rokansai signature. Ca 1927. This basket is in excellent condition.

This is an ingeniously crafted ikebana basket formed as a fishing boat, its body intricately woven with fine bamboo strands interspersed with sections of rootwood. Bamboo reeds worked for the bow and stern, and twisted bamboo applied to either side of the mat-plaited deck provide additional support and aesthetic charm. The piece is lacquered a rich mahogany color, adding to its beauty. This delightful basket is in very good condition.

A major stoneware cake dish of rounded- square form, highlit with gilt accents. Its soft color and monochromatic glaze provides a neutral ground for the moriage white and red -glazed kiku buds floating among swirling clouds.
