This is a shallow Imari porcelain bowl formed as a sakura, predominately executed in various shades of iron red and Mohammedan blue. Three elaborate medallions of kiku-form with gilt scrollwork divide the dramatic visual of ho-o and paulownia vines and leaves. The central rondel depicts an ikebana arrangement of sakura and peony. This wonderful Imari piece is in very good condition with the slight wear to the gilt and minimal flaking of the green-enameled leaves due to age and use. Length: 14", width: 13.5" Meiji Period, Japan
