A charming wood netsuke of a seated Okame (also called Otafuku)combing her hair. The artist carved this whimsical and private depiction of one of Japan's most beloved figures associated often with mirth and eroticism. Okame's warm facial features, comprised of tiny, laughing eyes, small nose, mouth and round, pinkish cheeks, emphasize her joyful nature. This wood netsuke is in marvelous condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. Incised signature on base reads Issan. Height: 1.25" 19th Century, Japan
