 SOLD - Many thanks!
This is a charming boxwood netsuke of two seated rabbits facing opposite directions, one with its paw on a persimmon branch.Their bodies are delicately modeled, the fine, incised work simulating the creatures' furry coats. Their eyes are inlaid with mother-of-pearl and the bottom of the piece is brilliantly carved to indicate their tails and the soles of their feet in the most naturalistic manner. The carved signature of the maker, Okatomo, resides on the bottom of one of the hare's paws. This delightful animal netsuke of two rabbits is in excellent condition with no imperfections and no restoration. 20th Century, Japan
