This is a brilliant set of Imari porcelain platters formed as fish. Their distinctive forms rendered in the characteristic Imari color palette of under-the-glaze cobalt, over-the-glaze iron red and gilt detailing. With matching designs, the platters display cartouches with fanciful arrangements of ikebana flowers in their pots and phoenix hovering over pine needles. In perfect harmony, the backgrounds continue the iron red and salmon-colored palette, this time with a floral scrollwork design. Both platters are in fine condition with only minor wear to the gilt, commensurate with age and use. Lengths: 14.5” and 16” Meiji Period, Japan
