A white-glazed pottery incense burner sculpted as a dynamic one-horned kylin, his body incised, his expression vigorous. The kylin is a fantastic beast, highly regarded in East Asian cultures with auspicious connotations. Impressed gourd signature cartouche of Makuzu Kozan on base. This robust kylin is in very good condition with desired signs of use along the interior of the lid. (Please see detail pictures.) Includes tomobako. Length: 6.25”, height: 6” Meiji Period, Japan
