An unusual woven bronze wall pocket in the form of a dragonfly, conceived for ikebana use in the tea ceremony. Its tapered body is woven with fine strands of copper-patinated bronze in matte plaiting, the wings reticulated and attached by a mesh of swirling wire. (The dragonfly in Japanese art is an auspicious symbol symbolizing success and victory, also emblematic of late summer and early autumn.) A hook positioned on its nether side is for wall mounting. This fine bronze basket is in very good condition for its age. Height: 3", width: 8", length: 8" Taisho Period, Japan
