A stoneware vase of traditional form partially covered with a dripping celadon glaze, a dark-eyed shrimp sculpture sprawled upon its surface. The lustrous celadon glaze is a marked contrast to the grainy texture of the unglazed stoneware. Makuzu Kozan II double-gourd mark on base. This iconic piece is in excellent condition with no problems.. Provenance: Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Sardi. (For a similar jar see “Master Potter of Meiji Japan” by Clare Pollard p.80. Ashmolean Museum, 1990.) Height: 9.75” Circa 1900, Late Meiji Period, Japan
