A rare, gold-lacquer smoking set formed as a Heian-style carriage with twined handle and flowing tassels executed in Japanese silver. Decorated in several tones of gold in high and low relief, it has wheels on both sides, a single drawer with silver floral pull, and two silver containers with removable covers engraved, “Jungin” (pure silver). The carriage holds a silver brazier with opening for a pipe and a slender silver receptacle for ashes. This unique piece is in excellent condition with neither damage nor repairs. Height: 7”, width: 11.25”, depth: 4.75” Meiji Period, Japan
