 Sold, many thanks!
An elegant, Art-Nouveau inspired Japanese silver bowl of double-walled construction with foliate rim and pedestal base. Lotus flowers and leaves in high relief adorn the exterior with partly hammered and incised details on a mirror-like ground. Bowl marked on the base, “Arthur & Bond, Yokohama Sterling”. This large silver bowl is in excellent condition. (The excitement and surge of interest in Japanese art from western collectors and connoisseurs well over 100 years ago propelled studios, such as the British Arthur & Bond, to establish themselves in Japan and work alongside Japanese artisans.) Japanese export silver with its opulent style and high silver content more than satisfied cravings for ownership in the west at that time, as it still does today.) Height: 7”, width: 12” Meiji Period, Japan
