A Hirado porcelain okimono of a female shishi clambering upon the rocky edges of a precipice. Detailed in white, under- glaze blue and brown glazes, the imagery refers to the shishi mother’s resolute act of throwing her young, one-by-one, off a cliff in order to test their survival capabilities.
