A round Satsuma shallow bowl with geometric border framing the main visual- a suspenseful activity in a wintry pine forest. In Heian Period- style clothes, a mother and two sons hide among the snow-covered trees where, across the river, samurai with bows and arrows hunt for them. This exquisitely detailed scene references the flight of Tokiwa Gozen and her three sons, including the future hero of Japan, Yoshitsune. Gilt Kyozan signature on base. This Satsuma bowl is in excellent condition with no problems and no repairs. Diameter: 6.75” Meiji Period, Japan
