A six-sided Satsuma vase of flared form decorated along the shoulders with myriads of patterned, floating fabrics, with two distinctly different images displayed in vivid, colored enamels. On one side, villagers carry rice bales cross a bridge, bijin and karako waiting at the other end. The second image is of two stately Manchurian cranes posing under blossoming sakura at the river’s edge. Fine gilt details throughout enhance the delicate painting. This gorgeous Satsuma vase is signed by the noted Satsuma artist, Ryozan, and is in excellent condition. Height: 10” Meiji Period, Japan
