A very fine lacquered wood netsuke formed as two eggplants, one large eggplant with takamaki-e insects in red and black lacquers on a gold brushed ground. The other small eggplant worked in nashiji. Gilt signature of Yoyusai on reverse side. The Netsuke Handbook of Ueda Reikichi describes this artist as a “famous gold-lacquer artist. Also made gold-lacquer netsuke”, p. 309. This elegant netsuke is in excellent condition and will be a fine contribution to any netsuke or lacquer collection. Length: 2.5” Edo Period (19th C.), Japan
