A fanciful iron tsuba of round, sukashi form sculpted as the “three wise monkeys”. The tsuba is cleverly modeled in such a way that the long arms and legs connect each monkey performing this adage. The artist sculpted each face with expressive detail through the use of soft strokes of the chisel. Incised signature of Bushuju Masakata can be found on the front face. In overall good condition for its age with minimal wear. This fine tsuba is creatively executed, expressing this much beloved theme in Japanese art. Edo Period, Japan
