A wonderfully-mounted and framed wood-block print of Paul Jacoulet’s successful Coucher De Soleil À Menado. Here, the artist Paul Jacoulet inverted the female and male roles from Manet’s celebrated Dejeuner sur l’Herbe. The man is seated at the woman’s feet with a nude back and a mustard-hued cloak placed loosely over his mid-section. Meanwhile, the woman is fully-clothed and stands with a nonchalant pose looking down at her companion as he speaks. The use of a subdued, pastel color palette, abstract background versus highly detailed figures and subject matter make this wood block print unconventional and a collector’s item. Overall in excellent condition and an early edition with tea jar seal. Length: 23”, width: 19.5” 1938, Japan
