This is an elegant bronze usubata flower vase with characteristic Edo Period form and red-splashed patination. Its wide, flaring rim, widely favored by ikebana masters of the period, provides a perfect foil for flower arrangement, its undecorated surface offers no competition with the ikebana master's art. The base of this fine flower vase is incised with the name of the bronze metallurgist of the time, Nagasaki-born Murata Seimin (1761-1837). This bronze vase is in excellent condition with only minor interior wear, consistent with use and includes its storage box. Height: 9.25", diameter: 9.5" 19th Century, Japan
